On a Friday in spring what better than branching out – we had jokes at the beginning of the week, might as well end the week with a(n imitation) Dr. Seuss tale. \u00a0Uplifting it shall be, just as the branches lift themselves into the light. \u00a0Happy spring, everyone!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

To be read in the Dr. Seuss cadence!<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In a land where the states are united, they claim,
\nIn a sky-scraping tower adorned with his name,
\nLived a terrible, horrible, devious chump,
\nThe bright orange miscreant known as the Trump.<\/p>\n

This Trump he was mean, such a mean little man,
\nWith the tiniest heart and two tinier hands,
\nAnd a thin set of lips etched in permanent curl,
\nAnd a sneer and a scowl and contempt for the world.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

He looked down from his perch, and he grinned ear to ear,
\nAnd he thought, \u201cI could steal the election this year!
\nIt\u2019d be rather simple, it\u2019s so easily won,
\nI\u2019ll just make them believe that their best days are done!
\nYes, I\u2019ll make them believe that it\u2019s all gone to Hell,
\nAnd I\u2019ll be the Messiah, and their souls they will sell.<\/p>\n

And I\u2019ll use lots of words disconnected from truth,
\nBut I\u2019ll say them with style, so they won\u2019t ask for proof.
\nI\u2019ll toss out vague platitudes, phrases, and such.
\nThey\u2019re so used to fake news that it won\u2019t matter much!
\nThey won\u2019t question the how, the what, why, or when,
\nI will make their America great once again!\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"The Trump told them to fear, they should fear he would say,
\n\u201cThey\u2019ve all come for your jobs, they\u2019ll all take them away.
\nYou should fear every Muslim and Mexican too,
\nEvery brown, black, and tan one, everyone who votes blue.\u201d<\/p>\n

And he fooled all the Christians, he fooled them indeed,
\nHe just trotted out Jesus, that\u2019s all Jesus-folk need.
\nAnd celebrity preachers, they all crowned him as king,
\nTripping over themselves just to kiss the Trump\u2019s ring.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And he spoke only lies, just as if they were true,
\nUntil they believed that the lies were true too.
\nHe repeated and Tweeted, and he blustered and spit,
\nAnd he misled and fibbed\u2014and he just made up shit.<\/p>\n

And the media laughed, but they printed each line,
\nThinking \u201cHe’ll never win, in the end we\u2019ll be fine.\u201d
\nSo they chased every headline, bold-typed every claim,
\n\u2018Till the fake news and real news, they looked just the same.<\/p>\n

\"\"And the scared folks who listened, they devoured each word,
\nYes, they ate it all up, every word that they heard,
\nFearing their status was under attack,
\nTrusting the Trump to take their America back.
\nFrom the gays and from ISIS, he\u2019d take it all back,
\nTake it back from the Democrats, fat cats, and blacks.
\nSo hook, line, and sinker they all took the bait,
\nAll of his lies about making America great.<\/p>\n

Now the Pant-suited One she was smart and prepared,
\nShe was brilliant and steady, but none of them cared.
\nThey cared not to see all the work that she\u2019d done,
\nOr the fact that the Trump had not yet done Thing One.
\nThey could only shout \u201cEmails!\u201d, yes \u201cEmails!\u201d they\u2019d shout,
\nBecause Fox News had told them\u2014and Fox News had clout.
\nAnd the Pant-suited One, she was slandered no end,
\nAnd lies became truths she could never defend.
\nAnd the Trump watched it all go according to plan\u2014
\nA strong woman eclipsed by an insecure man.<\/p>\n

\"\"And November the 8th arrived, finally it came,
\nLike a slow-moving storm, but it came just the same.
\nAnd Tuesday became Wednesday, as those days will do,
\nAnd the night turned to morning, and the nightmare came true,
\nWith millions of non-voters still in their beds,
\nYes, the Trump, he had done it, just like he had said.<\/p>\n

And the Trumpers they trumped, how they trumped when he won,
\nAll the racists and bigots, deplorable ones,
\nThey crawled out from the woodwork, came out to raise Hell,
\nThey came out to be hateful and hurtful as well.
\nWith slurs and with road signs, with spray paint and Tweets,
\nWith death threats to neighbors and taunts on the street.
\nAnd the grossest of grossness they hurled on their peers,
\nWhile the Trump, he said zilch\u2014for the first time in years.<\/p>\n

\"\"But he Tweeted at Hamilton<\/em>, he Tweeted the Times<\/em>,
\nAnd he trolled Alec Baldwin a few hundred times,
\nAnd he pouted a pout like a petulant kid,
\nThinking this is what Presidents actually did,
\nThinking he could still be a perpetual jerk,
\nTerrified to learn he had to actually work,
\nWork for every American, not just for a few,
\nNot just for the white ones\u2014there was much more to do.
\nHe now worked for the Muslims and Mexicans too,
\nFor the brown, black, and tan ones, and the ones who vote blue.
\nThey were all now his bosses, now they all had a say,
\nAnd those nasty pant-suited ones were still here to stay.<\/p>\n

And the Trump, he soon realized that he didn\u2019t win,<\/p>\n

He had gotten the prize\u2014and the prize now had him.<\/p>\n

And it turned out the Trump was a little too late,
\nFor America was already more than quite great,
\nNot because of the sameness, the opposite\u2019s true,
\nIt\u2019s greatness far more than just red, white, and blue,
\nIt\u2019s straight, gay, and female\u2014it\u2019s Gentile and Jew,
\nIt\u2019s Transgender and Christian and Atheist too.
\nIt\u2019s Asians, Caucasians of all different kinds,
\nThe disabled and abled, the deaf and the blind,
\nIt\u2019s immigrants, Muslims, and brave refugees,
\nIt\u2019s Liberals with bleeding hearts fixed to their sleeves.
\nAnd we are all staying, we\u2019re staying right here,
\nAnd we\u2019ll be the great bane of the Trump for four years.
\nAnd we\u2019ll be twice as loud as the loudness of hate,
\nBe the greatness that makes our America great.
\nAnd the Trump\u2019s loudest boasts, they won\u2019t ever obscure:<\/p>\n

Nearly three million more of us\u2014voted for her.<\/p>\n
