Even know the name? Science with a science fiction slant, composed in the form of a Bach fugue, call and response through generations, rich with philosophical questions, fun literary and musical references &#8211; all a welcome focus and distraction. Burying my head in a book when life got overwhelming did the trick, once again.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"J.S.Bach &quot;The Goldberg Variations&quot; [ Glenn Gould ] (1955)\" width=\"890\" height=\"668\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Cwas_7H5KUs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I have been a fan ever since. I admire someone digging deep to learn new science and facts that he then weaves into his narratives; I am grateful for someone who is willing to write difficult books &#8211; which they undoubtedly are &#8211; in the age of beach reading. I can even take excursions into spirituality \u00a0&#8211;<em>The Echo Maker<\/em> (Memory, Ornithology!), <em>Orf\u00e9o<\/em> (Music), <em>Generosity\u00a0<\/em>(Gene manipulation)-\u00a0when they come packaged within the larger philosophical issues of determinism. My enthusiasm, however, is not universally shared.
